PART 3: PANTRY PLAN

PART 3:  HOW TO PLAN A PANTRY – FRIDGE AND FREEZER ITEMS.

Now let’s look at fridge items to have on hand.

  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Butter
  • Cheese (Shredded cheese is one of the things I buy in bulk, if you divide it and put it into seal-a-meal bags it will literally keep for months.)
    • Shredded cheddar
    • Shredded mozzarella
    • Grated Parmesan
  • Celery
  • Carrots
  • Sour cream
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Green and red peppers (if you use them in your recipes)
  • Mayo
  • Mustard
  • Catsup
  • Salad dressing

Freezer:  usually what is in my freezer are protein products that we regularly use and frozen vegetables.  When I find items on sale, I stock up. Obviously the other things in my freezer are items I have cooked and stored for another meal.

This is what you might find in my freezer:

Vegetables:

  • Corn
  • Green beans
  • Chopped spinach
  • Leaf spinach
  • Chopped broccoli
  • Broccoli florets
  • Peas
  • Edamame

Proteins:
  • Bacon
  • Ground beef, ground pork, ground turkey
  • Round steak/London Broil (for stew, stroganoff  etc.)
  • Italian sausage
  • Pork loin ( I often buy a whole one when they are on sale, cut into a roast and chops and freeze with seal-a-meal
  • Pre-frozen cooked shrimp
  • Chicken
    • Boneless breasts
    • Boneless thighs
    • Thighs and legs
    • Whole cut up chickens
    • Oven stuffer roasters

Except for shrimp, which I buy already frozen, I never buy and freeze fish.  I live near the water and if I want fish, I get it fresh.  I will buy other cuts of meat if they are on sale, but these are the ones I tend to use most.  Your list may be quite different.

Of course all of these are just suggestions.  Take from here what you need and make it work for you.  And have fun doing it!

Happy cooking,

Carol
